Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 14, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what Verve ("we", "us", "our") collects when you use the Verve app for iPhone and iPad, its widgets, iMessage app and Share extension, and getverveapp.com, why we collect it, who sees it, and the choices you have. We wrote it in plain language and kept it specific to how Verve actually works. If anything is unclear, email hello@getverveapp.com.
The short version: we don't sell your data or use it for advertising; a lot of Verve runs on your iPhone and never reaches us; friends see only what you choose; and you can use Verve without an account, in which case nothing you make is sent to our servers.
Using Verve Without an Account
You can use Verve as a guest. Signed out, the trips, itineraries, packing lists, polls, expenses and availability you make are kept on your device only — nothing is written to our servers and we don't know who you are. Features that involve other people or our servers (invites, groups, sharing, AI features, Smart Saves, importing trips) ask you to create an account first.
If you create an account or sign in later, Verve moves what you made as a guest into your account. As a guest, Settings → Erase Guest Data removes it from your device.
Information We Collect
Account information. Your email address; your name; and, if you sign in with Apple or Google, the identifier and email address they give us (with Sign in with Apple you can hide your real email address). We don't use passwords: email sign-in works with a one-time code we send to your address.
Your profile. The photo or emoji avatar, tagline, home cities, favorite activities and travel style you choose to add.
What you plan. Trips and their names, places, dates and pictures; itineraries and notes; stays, flights, trains, ferries, buses and rental cars, including any confirmation numbers, door codes or Wi-Fi details you add; expenses, how they're split and payments between people; tasks, polls, packing lists, saved links and collections; your availability; your Activity Log (days out, levels, resorts and season passes); and the groups, friends and trip guests you add. Trip guests are people without Verve that you add by name — please only add what they'd be comfortable with.
Payment names. If you add a PayPal.me name so people can pay you back, we store it with your account (see Purchases and Payments Between Friends).
Device and usage information. If Usage Analytics is on, we collect how the app is used (which screens and features are opened) and crash reports, through Google Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics. This includes device model, OS version, app version and a random app-instance identifier — not your name, email or what you type. We also keep a push-notification token if you allow notifications, and use Firebase App Check to confirm requests come from the real Verve app.
Messages to us. If you email us or send beta feedback, we keep what you send so we can answer.
What Stays on Your Device
Some things Verve uses are kept only on your iPhone or iPad and never sent to us:
- Travel documents — passports, IDs, visas and licenses you scan or add, and the countries you've asked not to be warned about. Entry-requirement checks run on your device.
- Your calendar. If you allow calendar access, Verve reads busy times on your device to suggest when you're free, and writes your trips to a "Verve Trips" calendar. Calendar events themselves are not uploaded; only the dates you choose to save as availability are.
- Your location. If you allow it, Verve uses your location once to suggest your current city as a home city. We keep the city you pick, not your location.
- Camera and photos. Receipts, documents and QR codes are scanned on your device. A photo is uploaded only when you choose it as your profile picture, or — for a receipt your phone couldn't read — sent to Gemini to read it (see AI Features).
- My Homes, receipt images, link previews and Tripsy backups you import.
Saved links are also kept in your private iCloud so they're on all your devices.
How We Use Information
- To run Verve: sign you in, sync your trips across your devices, and show them to the people you plan with.
- To send you notifications and emails you'd expect: sign-in codes, invites, trip updates, reminders and payment notices. You can turn notification types off in Settings → Notifications.
- To power the features you use, such as AI itineraries, flight look-ups, event and place suggestions, weather and cover photos.
- To keep Verve safe and working: preventing abuse, enforcing free-plan limits and fixing crashes.
- To occasionally tell you about new features. You can unsubscribe from these at any time.
We do not sell your personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, show you ads, or build advertising profiles.
Who Can See What You Share
People on your trips and groups see that trip's or group's details — plans, bookings, expenses, tasks and polls — and your name and avatar. Door codes, Wi-Fi details and confirmation numbers on a booking are visible to the people on that trip.
Your friends see a trip only once it's booked, and only the details you allow under the trip's Sharing settings and Settings → Privacy Settings. Our servers build a separate copy for friends that leaves the rest out, and nobody who isn't your friend is named to them. You can turn this off entirely with Show Trips to Friends.
Other Verve users can see your public profile — your name, avatar and, if you allow it, your favorite activities and tagline — for example when you're on the same trip or they look you up. With Discoverable by Email on, people who know your email address can find you.
Anyone with a link. Trip invite links and Share Trip links can be opened by anyone who has them, and show what you chose to include (Share Trip never includes expenses, codes, other people, tasks or polls). Link previews in messages show the trip's name, place, dates and picture. You can stop sharing a link at any time.
Service Providers We Use
We rely on a small number of companies to run Verve. They process data on our behalf and only for the purpose listed:
- Google Firebase (Google LLC) — sign-in, our database, file storage, server functions, push notifications, App Check, and, if you allow them, analytics and crash reports. Your account data is stored in the United States.
- Google Gemini (Google LLC) — the AI features described below, called only from our servers.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases, Apple Maps (place search, addresses and directions), WeatherKit forecasts, Apple Intelligence on your device, iCloud for saved links, and TestFlight for beta invitations.
- Google Sign-In — if you choose to sign in with Google.
- Resend — sends the sign-in codes we email you.
- AeroDataBox (via RapidAPI) — flight look-ups. We send the flight number or route and date, not who you are.
- Unsplash — cover photos. We send search terms (like a city's name) from our servers and tell Unsplash when one of its photos is used, as its guidelines require. Your identity is never sent.
- Ticketmaster and web search through Gemini — events near your trip, looked up by area and week only.
- Apify — when you share a public Instagram or TikTok post as a Smart Save, it reads that public post so we can find the places in it.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the safety of people or Verve, or as part of a merger or acquisition, in which case this policy would continue to apply to it.
AI Features
Most of what you type is read on your device first — Verve's own parser, Apple Maps and, on iOS 26, Apple Intelligence on your device. Google's Gemini is used only when a feature needs it, always through Verve's servers and never straight from your phone, and only for signed-in accounts:
- Draft with AI and Fill with AI send the trip's destination, dates, the plans already on the days being filled, the places already on the trip, and the preferences you pick.
- Quick Capture sends a sentence Verve couldn't place on your device (Verve Pro).
- Receipts send the receipt photo, reduced in size, only when your phone couldn't read it.
- Smart Saves send the text of the link or post you shared.
We send only what the request needs — never your email, contacts, travel documents or other trips. AI suggestions can be wrong; please check them.
Smart Saves
When you share a link to Verve and choose to find its places, our servers fetch the page (or, for public Instagram and TikTok posts, read it through Apify), find the places it mentions and look them up on Apple Maps. The link and the places found are saved to your collection. Results for the same public link may be cached and reused for other people who save it; who saved it is not.
Anonymous Place Guides
To suggest better places, Verve pools which AI-suggested places people keep, move or remove, and which Apple Maps places they pick, into an anonymous score per place. Only Apple Maps places count — never your notes, plan titles, stays, trip names or who you are — and a place only counts once at least five different travelers are behind it. You can turn this off in Settings → Privacy Settings → Improve Place Guides; doing so removes what your trips contributed.
Purchases and Payments Between Friends
Verve Pro is bought through the App Store. Apple handles payment; we never see your card details. We receive Apple's signed record of your subscription so we can confirm it and give you Pro on your account.
If you add a PayPal.me name, only you can read it directly. If you leave "People on my trips and groups can use it" on, someone on the same trip or group can use it at the moment they tap to pay you; we don't store it on their device. You can turn this off or remove it in Settings → Payment Methods.
Verve never moves money. Opening PayPal, Venmo or another app to pay someone happens in that app under its own privacy policy; Verve doesn't learn whether a payment was made unless someone records it.
When you open a booking partner's page for a stay, we send the partner the hotel, your dates and the number of guests, and the link carries our affiliate ID so we may earn a commission. What you do on the partner's site is covered by its own privacy policy.
Importing Trips from Other Apps
When you connect a TripIt account in Settings → Import Trips, you sign in on TripIt's own page; your TripIt password never reaches Verve. TripIt gives Verve an access key, which we keep on our servers — never on your device or anyone else's — and use only to read your TripIt trips when you choose to import. We don't keep what TripIt sends; only the trips you pick are saved to your Verve account. You can disconnect at any time in Settings → Import Trips, or remove Verve in TripIt's settings, and deleting your Verve account removes the key.
When you import from a Tripsy backup, the backup file is read on your device and never uploaded; only the trips you pick are saved to your Verve account. Imported trips are private until you share them.
AI Assistants You Connect
You can connect an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT to Verve in Settings → AI Assistants. Nothing is connected unless you approve it in the Verve app, and you can disconnect it there at any time; deleting your Verve account disconnects everything.
A connected assistant can see the trips you're on: their names, places and dates, their plans, the names of the people on them, the times and places of what's booked (stays, flights, trains, ferries, buses and cars), and their expenses and who owes whom. It can create trips; change their names, places, dates, stages and plans; and add stays, flights, trains, ferries, buses, cars and expenses. Door codes, Wi-Fi passwords or confirmation numbers you ask it to add are kept with the booking in Verve, but Verve never sends them, room details, your friends list, your sharing settings or your documents to an assistant, and an assistant can't invite or remove anyone.
What an assistant reads from Verve is handled by the company that runs it under its own privacy policy. Verve keeps a record of each connection (which assistant, when it was approved and last used) so you can see and remove it, and nothing else about your conversations.
Verve Events
Verve Events is our companion app for events. It uses the same Verve account, so signing in to one can sign you in to the other on the same device. Events you post in Verve Events are public and may appear on trips nearby in Verve, credited to Verve Events.
Beta and Waitlist Signups
When you join the iOS beta or a waitlist on our website, we keep the email address you enter (and your first name, if you give it) to invite you to the beta or tell you when Verve is ready for your device. For the iOS beta, we share your email address and name with Apple, which sends you the TestFlight invitation. We don't use it for anything else, and you can ask us to remove it at any time.
Your Choices
- Analytics: turn usage analytics and crash reports off in Settings → Analytics Data or Privacy Settings. You're asked when you sign up.
- Place guides: Settings → Privacy Settings → Improve Place Guides.
- What friends see: each trip's Sharing settings, and Settings → Privacy Settings (Show Trips to Friends, Trips You Join, Hide My Trips for a friend).
- Permissions: location, calendar, camera, photos and notifications can be changed any time in iOS Settings → Verve.
- Emails: use the unsubscribe link in any non-essential email, or email hello@getverveapp.com.
Keeping and Deleting Your Data
We keep your account data for as long as you have an account. Some things expire on their own: sign-in codes after 10 minutes, cached flight and photo searches after a set time, and invite links once their trip has ended.
To delete your account and everything in it, email hello@getverveapp.com from the address you signed up with, and we'll confirm once it's done. Deleting your account removes your profile, the trips you own and the rest of your account's data from our servers, and disconnects TripIt and any AI assistants. Trips you were on but didn't create stay with their owner, without you on them; expenses that involve you may keep your name so everyone's balances still add up. Backups are overwritten in the normal course of operation. Data on your device is removed when you sign out or delete the app.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to withdraw consent. Most of this you can do in the app; for anything else, email hello@getverveapp.com. We won't treat you differently for using these rights. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on our contract with you to provide Verve, on your consent for analytics and optional permissions, and on our legitimate interest in keeping Verve secure and improving it.
Where Your Data Is Stored
Verve is run from the United States, and your account data is stored on Google Cloud in the United States. If you use Verve from elsewhere, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States, with the safeguards our providers offer for international transfers.
Security
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, protected by access rules that only let the right people read each trip, and only accessible to a limited number of people who need it to run Verve. Secrets such as partner access keys stay on our servers. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you by email and in the app within 7 business days of learning of it, and as the law requires.
Our Website
getverveapp.com doesn't use advertising or tracking cookies, and we honor Do Not Track signals. If you sign up for the beta or a waitlist, we keep what you enter as described above.
Children
Verve is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email hello@getverveapp.com and we'll delete it.
Changes to This Policy
This page is the only copy of our Privacy Policy — the app opens it here, so you always see the current version. When we change it, we update the date at the top and add a line to the change log below. If a change is significant, we'll also tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
